The big east coast snowstorm is definitely going to put a cramp on lots of holiday travel plans. There are non-weather related holiday snafu’s to worry about too.
December happens to be when there are more bag mishandling reports filed than any other month of the year due. Why? Volume! More bags are checked during December than any month. So if you are traveling this week, USA TODAY featured some great tips to avoid spending the holidays wearing clothes you borrow from relatives!
I always try to carry on my luggage. If I am flying with my kids, they are carrying on their stuff (ok, and some of my stuff) too!
If you have no choice and are checking bags when you are traveling this holiday season, consider these tips from the
•Avoid connecting flights. It makes sense that if there’s not enough time between connecting flights, there’s an increased probability of losing a bag. Experts recommend at least 30 minutes between connecting flights if you are checking your bags.
•Don’t Wrap Presents, because the metalized foil in wrapping paper appears solid during security screening. This may result in a manual bag search, which could delay the bag.
•Tag your Bag! Make sure you place owner identification inside and outside a bag, and be sure to check the destination and flight number on the tag before you leave it. This makes it easier to return to you should it get lost.
